Unlearning & Relearning

UNLEARNING AND RELEARNING
(The flexibility of acquiring knowledge)

Written by Oluwatosin Animasahun

There was this man who planned to embark on a journey with his wife. They informed their little boy who was a secondary school student about their journey which would take them  a week before their return. It was usual for the boy to leave home very early in the morning for school before his parent. When he was set for school early that morning, his father told him that he would only drop the key for him if he could take responsibilities of the house which the boy promised to do.

So the father told his boy clearly that he would put the only key to the house under the foot mat which was at the main entrance since the boy had once misplaced the spare key to the house. On this note, the boy was happy and he quickly scheduled a lot of plans he wished to do while his parents would be away.

On his return from school, he looked under the foot mat but couldn't find the key, then he concluded that the father had changed his mind and went with the key since they were still doubting what he could do with the liberty of staying alone at home while they would be away. He couldn't call his parents because his cell phone was dead, hence he became hungry, tired and restless.

Could it be that the father had gone with the key and left his boy to stay outside for a week?

He was left with his thought, sat down at the door while one of his classmates on his way home in the neighborhood noticed him. He asked him why he was sitting at the entrance and he told him the whole story and how he couldn't find the key under the foot mat. Upon hearing that, his friend deleted that information of where the father left the key and started looking elsewhere asking himself over and over again.... "Where else could his father have kept the key?" It didn't take him up to a minute before he found the key inside the flower base which is in front of the door.

He was excited about how his friend could be so knowledgeable to look elsewhere for the key even though he had told him the information he learnt from his father.

Dear mature reader, the story teaches us that a single information we have learnt, no matter how rooted, resourceful and reliable, is not enough to make the totality of every knowledge we need for accessing our needs in life. It could cater for some needs, but it can't settle all the needs.

I have seen people who became contented with the ideas they had about certain things as a result of how they learnt or gathered the information that became the knowledge, or as a result of who they learnt those knowledge from. This set of people usually find it hard to believe that the information at hand is less valid or has no value at some points, and this belief system has rigidified their sense of acquiring new knowledge.

We can't survive certain levels of life if we don't culture our cerebrum to navigate the law of unlearning and relearning. The beauty of every knowledge is its continuous functionality and reliability through experiments. And at times, knowledge is fixed, the way we then react to it depends on the way it magnifies itself to fruitfulness.

It is also worthy of note that, any knowledge which has once been valid and useful no matter how little should not in any way be condemned but should be used to navigate the advancement of such knowledge in order to solve advanced life situations in the context of that same circumstance. This is true!

Have you been doing self orientation lately about the permanent fixture of those knowledge you have acquired? I know getting those knowledge and how they have helped you is no small thing. But have you also thought about how you have not yet advanced in the results you got from those knowledge?

Have you been picturing lately that some certain things are missing in the result you are producing? I have an answer for you; there's a missing information in the knowledge that you have.

All you need to do is to relearn your strategies, and to do that sometimes, your first step might be to unlearn those information that you have.

I care about you, and your great achievements are my concern. Mind you, great achievements are what qualify great visionaries. Till we meet on my next writeup, please keep that to mind.
