THE ALTERNATOR AND THE ENGINE

(The concept of Goal Achievement Plan)

Yea! It's a new season, I welcome you to the season where your impacts will be felt in your society. Don't quit yet, be driven towards making more impact than the previous years, have a clearer picture about yourself and your goals, be specific in goal settings and most importantly, set up your environment so that you are constantly reminded of your goals and your ability to achieve them. By doing so, you will be able to discover and embrace those achievements that are meant for you to accomplish this year.

I've been thinking about what information would be perfect for us to start this fruitful season and my mind could not arrive at anything until last week when I came across a friend while he was repairing his small gasoline generator. He had screwed out the fuel tank at that time which enabled me to see everything that the generator is made of. My mind finally captured something inspiring to start this new year after having a conversation with this friend. This is exactly what we discussed;

Me: Of all the parts of the generator, which one is responsible for the electric supply?

My friend: The alternator coordinates power supply.

Me: But why work on the engine when the alternator is responsible for supplying current.

My Friend: (with a smiling face) The engine is designed to make the alternator function. The engine is not the one that provides the current, but it is the one that empowers the source of the current and makes it serve its purpose.

I couldn't stop resonating around the last statement my friend uttered until I was able to mine out the wisdom behind it; "the engine is not the one that provides the current, but it is the one that empowers the source of the current and makes it serve its purpose". This means that, paying close attention to the elements that are responsible for giving us our desired expectations is not enough to achieve our ultimate goal, we must be able to think around the factors that are responsible for the welfare of such elements.

As goal setters, we often focus on the things that are responsible for making our dreams come true, we don't usually place close attention to the subconscious factors which are primarily responsible for helping us to achieve our desired result. For instance, my friend could have gone for the alternator when his generator could not serve the purpose it was meant to serve. He went for the engine because he knew the alternator could only perform the expected task if the engine was in good condition.

Dear young visionary, don't be addicted to placing your focus ONLY on the factors that are primarily responsible for achieving the goals you have set for yourself, you must build up yourself to a point where you can extend your views to the things that will make those factors work in accordance with your plan, I call them "SubConscious Factors".

The "SubConscious Factors" are the engines that will power the alternator of your vision and make it supply current to your target audience. Take for instance, if you set a goal of wearing the new shoe you bought during Christmas for 6 months before buying another one; Polishing the shoe and avoiding sandy areas on the road might not only make your goal achievable, you may also have to buy a rubber sandal which is usable for less important outings. In that regard, taking proper care and polishing the shoe for 6 months is the primary factor while getting a supportive footwear is the subconscious factor that will make your Christmas shoe live long.

As you take critical steps to achieving your goal in 2021, make sure your plans are systematically spelt out such that you can identify all of the factors that are responsible for achieving that goal.

Finally, it is important to note that the relevance of the primary factors can not be overemphasized. If the alternator is faulty, the good conditioned engine powers nothing. I look forward to seeing your goals becoming achievable at the end of the year.
